Lobo, Texas is located 130 mi. east of El PasoOffsite Link, south of the Guadalupe Mountains at an elevation of 4,010 feet (1,222m).

Lobo is situated only 15 miles from the Mexican border and is surrounded by ranches and a few farms that produce their crops through desert irrigation.

Lobo, as well as Van HornOffsite Link, the Culberson CountyOffsite Link Seat, belongs to the Central Time Zone. The Mountain Time Zone begins just west of Lobo.

Many UFO enthusiasts pass through Lobo en route from Area 51Offsite Link (Nevada) and RoswellOffsite Link (New Mexico) to the Mysterious LightsOffsite Link in Marfa, Texas (50 mi. south of Lobo).

Marfa is one of the nicest towns in west Texas. The historic downtown was the backdrop of many well-known Western movies. Marfa is also known for its artist's colony and museum established by minimalist Donald Judd (www.chinati.orgOffsite Link) Every year 10 artists receive a scholarship from the Chinati and Judd Foundations to live and continue their work in Marfa.

Guadalupe Mountains NationalparkOffsite Link is only a one-hour drive to the north of Lobo. Guadalupe Peak (8,749 ft) is the highest mountain in TexasOffsite Link. Two hours south of Lobo is Big Bend NationalparkOffsite Link US Route 90, which passes through Lobo, is part of the Texas Mountain TrailOffsite Link, featuring such attractions as Fort Davis NationalparkOffsite Link and the Mc Donald ObservatoriumOffsite Link.

Lobo sits on top of an underground water reservoir that supplies the water to a large pecan plantation directly across US 90Offsite Link. Since 1919, the pecan treeOffsite Link has been the state treeOffsite Link of Texas. The tracks of the Southern Pacific Railroad run parallel to US 90.

Lobo has an abundance of sunshine. It rains on the average less than once a week. The average day high during the winter months is 60 degrees, in the spring and fall 77 degrees, and in the summer 90 degrees. Due to the low humidity even high temperatures are pleasant. The nighttime lows are about 30 degrees below the daytime high temperatures.
