| The first few days were spent cleaning up and landscaping. Some of the trash that
had been accumulating for over ten years was removed, sand was dug out of the
pool, and the "Lone Star Grill" and a bar built with coolers were put into
operation. Because superficial aesthetics don't further the goal of rebuilding
Lobo, Alexander had a truckload of roofing materials delivered from El Paso
to signal that fun time was over. At temperatures reaching up to 104 degrees, it
took 3 weeks to clear off all the old roofing materials, resurface the town hall
(2400 sq. ft.) with roll roofing, roofing cement, and buckets of roofing nails, and
cover the gas station roof, first with 1000 sq. ft. of OSB board and then with
galvanized steel. The part of the gas station roof that hangs over the service
area will be tackled in the spring of 2003, along with the motel roof.
